Red, orange, pink and purple blocks lock into one another at an angle, the way strips of wood meet in a parquet floor. The pattern is borrowed from woodwork; the heat comes from the palette, since almost every block sits on the warm half of the wheel, with the purples keeping it off a single note. Close up, each block is its own field of sheared acrylic pile, so the geometry shows in relief as well as in color.

The piece is designed as wall art first. Hanging loops are included, ready to fasten to the heavy textile backing, and at 31.5 × 19.6 in and 5.5 lbs it goes up on standard picture hardware: the footprint of a mid-size painting, with the body of a textile. Set on the floor instead, that same backing carries a non-slip finish for stability.

It was tufted by hand in our studio: a tufting gun carries acrylic yarn through a stretched textile base, block after block, and shearing brings the pile to one height with clean borders between the colors. One photograph shows the reverse, including how the textile backing is finished on a hand-tufted rug. Upkeep is short: lint roller for dust, gentle vacuum when it needs one, professional cleaning for a deep stain.
