About this piece

This piece is intended primarily as textile wall art. If displayed on the floor, regular or heavy foot traffic is not recommended.

Blocks of red, orange, pink and purple interlock at angles, the way boards meet in a parquet floor. The pattern is borrowed from woodwork; the temperature comes from the palette: nearly every block sits on the warm side of the wheel, with the purples keeping it from tipping into monotone. Up close, each block is a distinct field of sheared acrylic pile, so the geometry reads in relief as well as in color.

The piece is conceived first as wall art. Hanging loops come with it, ready to fix to the sturdy textile backing, and at 80 × 50 cm (31.5 × 19.6 in) and 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs) it hangs on ordinary picture hardware: the format of a mid-sized painting, with the depth of a textile. If displayed on the floor, the same textile backing has a non-slip finish for stability.

It was tufted by hand in our studio: a tufting gun carries acrylic yarn through a stretched textile base, block by block, and shearing brings the pile to an even height with clean boundaries between colors. One of the photographs shows the reverse, including the finish of the textile backing on a hand-tufted rug. Upkeep is short: lint roller for dust, gentle vacuum when needed, professional cleaning for deep stains.

This rug is in stock as a single piece: $235, dispatched within five to ten days, free tracked shipping across the EU and to the US. If you want the parquet in other proportions or another palette, we can tuft a new version to order in two to three weeks: send your measurements for a price.
