About this piece

This piece is intended primarily as textile wall art. If displayed on the floor, regular or heavy foot traffic is not recommended.

Hruma the cat has sat for two portraits in our studio. One is realistic, listed separately as the Custom Pet Rug, and this is the other: the same face broken into patches of bright color, closer to how an Impressionist would paint a cat than to how a camera sees one. The geometry of the muzzle, ears and eyes stays true to the photograph, so the likeness holds; only the color is set free. When you commission a portrait of your own pet, this is one of the two directions you can choose.

The process is the same either way. You send a clear photo of your cat or dog, we redraw it by hand into a color mockup and pick the yarn palette to match, and tufting begins after you approve the design. A hand-held tufting gun drives acrylic yarn through a textile base, patch of color by patch of color. After the adhesive backing has dried, the rug comes off the frame; we then level and shape the pile in stages. Nothing here is printed: every shade is a separate yarn, and the finished piece is meant primarily for the wall.

At 84 × 84 cm (33 × 33 in) and roughly 2.4 kg, the square sits well beside a bed or a reading chair, and it hangs comfortably as textile wall art if you ask us to add loops to the back. Any other size can be ordered: the mockup is simply redrawn to your measurements, and the price follows the area from $360 for this format.

A personalized pet rug is made to order and leaves the studio in two to three weeks; delivery is free across the EU and to the US and tracked. The acrylic pile is easy to live with: lint-roll fur and dust away, vacuum on a gentle setting, and hand serious stains to a professional cleaner rather than scrubbing them.
