About this piece
This piece is intended primarily as textile wall art. If displayed on the floor, regular or heavy foot traffic is not recommended.
An eye, the curve of a nose, a scatter of loose geometric shapes: step back and they assemble into a face. The drawing owes more to modern painting than to ornament: orange, green, red and blue sit against a soft cream ground, and the composition only resolves at a distance. In practice it behaves like a picture hung on the wall, which is why it suits rooms that already live with art: a living room, a home office, a studio.
At 70 × 70 cm (27.5 × 27.5 in), this is a decorative accent suited to wall display. It weighs 3 kg (6.61 lbs), and the textile underside has a non-slip layer that helps keep it stable when displayed on the floor. We attach loops to the textile back for hanging from ordinary picture hooks.
The rug is tufted by hand: a tufting gun pushes acrylic yarn through a stretched textile base, color field by color field, and the pile is then sheared even so the outlines of the face stay sharp. Acrylic yarn holds its color and asks for little: a lint roller for everyday dust, a careful vacuum now and then, a professional cleaner if something spills.
The Abstract Face Rug costs $225 and is made to order in our studio: count on two to three weeks of making before it ships, free and tracked, anywhere in the world. The design can also be retufted in another size to suit your room: the price follows the area.
