One eye. The line of a nose. A handful of geometric shapes that look scattered until you back up a few feet, at which point they lock into a face. The vocabulary comes out of modern painting rather than out of ornament, with orange, green, red and blue set on a quiet cream ground, and the whole thing resolves only at a distance. Hang it and it behaves like a canvas, which is why it belongs in rooms that already hold art: a den, a home office, a studio corner.

Every one is tufted by hand. The gun pushes acrylic yarn through a stretched textile base, one color field after the next, and the pile is then sheared flat so the outlines of the face stay crisp. Acrylic asks almost nothing in return: a lint roller for dust, an occasional careful vacuum, a professional cleaner if something gets spilled on it.
