Seen from straight above, the way a gull would see it: a grandmother stretched out on her blanket, a child in mid-game, and a ball already flying between them. The painting stops half a second before the outcome: whether it lands on the sand or on the grandmother is left for the viewer to decide. Around the two figures, planes of blue, pink and green stand in for sea, towels and summer light without spelling any of it out.

The scene is painted in acrylic on canvas and measures 150 × 100 cm (59.06 × 39.37 in). Scale is part of the joke: from across the room, a meter and a half of canvas reads as a cheerful color-field composition, and the small drama with the ball only surfaces as you walk up to it.
