The smallest paintings in this catalog are true A4, 29.7 × 21 cm (11.7 × 8.26 in), acrylic on artist’s cardboard, and this one holds a whole meadow. Sheep doze in the grass under a mild sun, eyes shut, each rounded silhouette rimmed with a calm purple contour; the green of the field moves softly from shade to shade instead of sitting flat. Nothing in the scene is going anywhere, and that is the point: it is a small machine for slowing down.

A work this size lives differently from a wall-filling canvas. It suits the shelf above a desk, the narrow strip of wall by a door, the corner of a kitchen: places big paintings cannot reach. And because the sheet is a standard A4, framing is the easiest it will ever be: off-the-shelf frames fit it exactly, no custom cutting involved.

At $105 this is also the least expensive way to own an original from the studio. It is not a print of a popular design and not one of an edition: the acrylic went onto this single sheet by hand, and the sheet carries Kseniia Derr’s signature. When it sells, there will not be another identical one.
