Abstract tufted rugs

Everything on this page is abstract by intent: a face broken into flat shapes, a wave running edge to edge, a whirlpool of mustard and deep blue, leaves flattened into blocks of colour, a parquet in red and orange. None of it is a print of a painting. Each was drawn for yarn and then tufted by hand, acrylic strand pushed through backing cloth held tight on a frame, one field of colour after another, then levelled and carved in passes so every shape ends up with its own edge and its own depth.

Eight works are shown below, 50 to 84 cm across, each with a non-slip base on the reverse. Three are round, which is the harder shape to buy and the easier one to place: over a couch, at the foot of a bed, on the wall of a room that already owns enough straight lines. These pieces are intended primarily as textile wall art. If displayed on the floor, regular or heavy foot traffic is not recommended.

Any of these can be redrawn at another size, and an abstract design of your own can be commissioned outright. Send a sketch, a palette or a photograph whose colours you want to work from, and a colour mockup comes back before a single strand of yarn moves.
